FMCC Application Instructions
At Fulton-Montgomery Community College, a campus of the State University of New York, we are committed to helping our students reach their educational goals. We do this by creating an informal but respectful relationship between students and teachers, a relationship that promotes both learning and personal adjustment to a new environment. Teaching and advising are our most important activities. We are a small institution, and among our 1800 students you will be treated as an individual.
International students find this combination of advantages makes Fulton-Montgomery Community College a good place to start in the American system of higher education. We develop academic foundation and the self-confidence that foreign students need to pursue their studies in the United States. Our Associate Degree programs are equivalent to the first two years of study in a four-year university program.
The Transfer Concept- Four Year Programs
The transfer concept is a basic component of our system, and when you graduate, you have the possibility of pursuing a Bachelor's degree at an almost unlimited choice of institutions. Students have continued their studies at universities within New York State such as: The State University of New York at Albany, The Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Plattsburgh, Syracuse University and many others, as well as colleges out of the state such as: Florida State University or the University of California at Berkley.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Fulton-Montgomery Community College offers a full-time Intensive English Language Program for students who need to improve their language ability before beginning a college degree or certificate program. The Language Program is also intended for those who want to study English for career or social purposes before returning to their countries. Students receive 20-25 hours of instruction each week. After arrival to campus, a free English placement exam is given which determines the necessary level of English study the student will need.
COMBINED ESL + Degree Program Admission
If the student intends to continue studies at the FMCC campus after ESL study, a single admission can be granted for the English Language Program and an academic degree or certificate program. Admission as a full-time student to an academic program is contingent on the successful completion of the ESL Program. The required computer TOEFL score of 173 (or paper TOEFL equivalent of 500 or Internet TOEFL score of 61) is waived when the dual admission option is chosen and the ESL program is successfully completed. Our institution also recognizes STEP EIKEN test results.Grade Pre-1 or higher is required for undergraduate degree programs, or waived when the dual admission option is chosen.
Fulton-Montgomery Community College is a unit of the State University of New York, the largest public university system in the world. It is accredited by the Middle State Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and its programs are supervised by the New York State Department of Education. |
