EARLY ADMISSION
What can an above average high school senior do for a challenge after already fulfilling most requirements for high school graduation by the end of junior year? By senior year, many students' only remaining graduation requirements are 12th grade English, social studies, and physical education. Students might choose Fulton-Montgomery Community College's Early Admission Program and begin college while still in high school.
For more than 25 years, FMCC's early admission students have replaced their senior year in high school with college courses at our campus. Early admission students receive high school and college credit simultaneously. The purpose is to allow advanced high school seniors who have completed the majority of their high school requirements the opportunity to challenge themselves and start college early.
WHY CHOOSE EARLY ADMISSION?
Challenge! Complete more advanced subjects not available at high school.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR EARLY ADMISSION?
Students ranked in the top half of their graduating class and recommended by a guidance counseor or high school principal qualify. Students not ranked in the top half of their graduating class but otherwise in good standing may take courses for exploration. No classes taken will be required for graduation from high school.
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE AN EARLY ADMIT STUDENT?
Students attend classes with other college students. Full-time students will take ALL their classes at FMCC. Part-time students will take some of their classes at their high school and some classes at FMCC. Early Admission students can participate in college extra-curricular activities. They may also continue to participate in high school athletic programs or extra-curricular activities. See your guidance counselor for rules specific to your high school. Students may apply for FMCC campus-based scholarships. Early admission students are not eligible to participate in federal financial aid programs including Pell, federal student loans or federal work study program.
