Eric Wert

Another FM Success Story - Erik Wert ‘92

Erik Wert was born and raised in Amsterdam, NY. He attended Bishop Scully High School until his junior year at which time the private school closed. Erik then had a couple of options: 1, he could attend another local high school to finish his senior year; or 2, he could attend FM’s Early Admissions Program where he would earn his high school diploma while receiving college credit. Erik chose the latter and feels he is the better for it.

“Science has always been my best subject, even as a child. From the age of 10, I knew that one day I would like to become a physician. I thought that this (Bishop Scully High School closing) would be a great opportunity for me to get a jump start on my long educational journey to becoming a physician,” says Erik. “I chose to attend FM and I’m glad I did. The classes were small, my instructors were always available for questions, and I was able to get a lot more hands-on experience at the College.”

In 1992, Erik received his A.S. in Liberal Arts/Math & Science from FM.  He went on to Union College in Schenectady, NY where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Erik was then accepted to Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated in 2000 with his D.O. He completed his internship/residency in Internal Medicine at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan.

Today, Erik has a private medical practice in Lansing, Michigan and is currently looking for a Masters Program in Public Health.

Erik may be miles away from his old digs, but he still has family in New York including his mom, Julie, who is a retired psychiatric nurse; his brother, Hans who lives in New York City and is planning a wedding this April; and his sister, Mimi, who is married to Marc and has one son - and I might add Mimi is one of the newest members of the FM family. Recently, she was appointed to the position of Admissions and Enrollment Management Assistant at the College and thanks to her, I was able to get in touch with Erik - another FM success story!
