Raiders Suffer Regional Defeat
In the match-up of #5 (TC3) v. #12 (FMCC), both teams played very hard but the host got the better of the visitor. The first half was a back and forth battle. Both teams had good chances. For the Raiders, Roger Samene got a good look about midway through the first half with a shot that careened off of the crossbar. TC3 had a free kick just outside the box that just missed wide a few moments later. Even though both sides had good chances to finish, neither was able to in the first and the score was knotted 0-0 going into the break. The Panthers came out fired up in the 2nd and mounted several good attacks in the early minutes, but GK Casey Jensen and his backline of Bruce Pavlus, Jake Zidich, Edward Bonsu, and Roger Samene held strong and turned them away each time. The Raiders had a great opportunity to go ahead on a counter with 20 minutes left in regulation as Joe Mecca found Ted Yoon on a through ball. Ted carried the ball down the left flank and slid a ball across the penalty area that just missed a streaking Kevan Kozlowski and rather found Chris Modelowski making a run on the opposite wing. Modelowski hit a nice shot, but TC3 GK Lukas Mitchell was up to the task and turned away FM’s best chance of the half. 8 minutes later in the 78th minute, the Panthers broke the ice when Brandon Kohler on the left played a square ball to open teammate Jean Pierre-Rosas who took a touch and hit a nice shot that caught Jensen a tad too much off his line and the ball just sneaked under the cross bar to make it 1-0 TC3. As the Raiders pushed forward to find an equalizer, TC3 took advantage on a counter and sealed the victory 4 minutes later as Magor Mbengue found Salar Ahmad corner of the opposite 6 yard box which he played one time into the side netting past Jensen. The outcome ends the season for the Raiders. TC3 will move on and get a shot to knock off the #4 seeded Broome CC Hornets on Tuesday, November 3rd. TC3 had the edge in shots 10-6. Jensen had 8 saves on the day and Mitchell 5.
The Raiders finish the 2009 campaign with a record of 7-8-1.
Dufort, Cazenovia Heading to NCAA Tournament
The FM Soccer program took a big hit last season when they lost center back Bobby Dufort. Bobby transferred to Cazenovia College where he continued his soccer career this season. In his first season with Cazenovia, Bobby has started all 19 games at center back, and has helped lead Cazenovia to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Bobby has done a great job this season as he has helped the Wildcats allow an average of only 1.29 goals per contest to go along with nine shutouts. Winners of seven straight, which included a three-game run to win their conference championship, Cazenovia is peaking at the right time. Bobby has also scored a goal on the season. The Wildcats finished the season riding the high of a four game winning streak that included wins against Clarkson and for the first ever time in school history a win against Keuka. This earned the Wildcats the Number 3 seed in the NEAC Tournament. They beat Cobleskill 3-0 in the first round. In round 2 for the first time in school history they knocked off SUNY IT by a score of 1-0 to advance to the finals where The University of Dallas (TX) awaited them. The Wildcats won the NEAC Championship over Dallas by a score of 2-1 and will be playing York (PA) in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
